FAQs
Are you certified?
Yes! I am a certified Psychosomatic Practitioner. I am also currently working on my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and plan to pursue therapist licensure (LPC).
WHAT to expect in a session?
The design of a session is similar to a traditional therapy session, but the foundation of somatic sessions is based on the body, rather than just the mind.
We will always begin and end with a short grounding practice. We will discuss your concerns and experiences but, unlike talk-therapy, we may pause to move our bodies in intuitive formats that benefit and/or regulate your current emotional state.
Much of this work is based aboud the Wheel of Emotions, which guides us toward determining the form of somatic work that may be most useful to you.
Examples:
if you fall into the “sadness” portion of the wheel, we may practice comforting self-soothing.
if you fall into the “anger” portion, we may practice safely hitting or throwing as a gateway toward regulation.
if you experience anxiety, we may practice broadening your Window of Tolerance for triggering situations,
Do I need prior experience with somatic practices?
No :) We welcome anyone interested in receiving care.
Are your services a replacement for therapy or medical care?
No! I am a certified somatic practitioner, not a licensed therapist or psychiatrist. If you are seeking a diagnosis or are experiencing a mental health crisis, contact a licensed clinician. If you are having urges to harm yourself or others, call 988. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
Before we begin our 1st session, you should have:
Completed and submitted the Client Intake form, the Informed Consent form, and the Liability Waiver. I also suggest keeping a dedicated journal/notebook for our sessions.
Can I donate to the monthly advocacy funds without scheduling an appointment?
Yes, please do!
What is your rescheduling/cancellation process?
To cancel or reschedule, you must do so at least 24 hours in advance. The opportunities to reschedule are unlimited, but each client has 3 missed sessions (no call, no show) before being removed from the client list.
